Plush 1.5.0: Plush Is Now Free, With a One-Time Plush Pro Upgrade
Plush 1.5.0 is free on the Mac App Store with up to 3 tiles. Plush Pro is $2.99 once, no subscription. Owners from before 1.5.0 get Pro free.

Plush 1.5.0 makes Plush Media Player free on the Mac App Store. The free version plays up to 3 tiles at once, for as long as you like, with no trial and no time limit. Plush Pro is a one-time $2.99 purchase, with no subscription, that unlocks up to 8 tiles and the rest of the advanced features. If you bought Plush before 1.5.0, you already have Plush Pro, free, for good. Thank you.
First, thank you
To everyone who paid for Plush before this update: you took a chance on a small Mac app from a small company, and you are the reason it got this far. Your support paid for the late nights that turned four tiles into eight, added Apple Music, sound modes, sessions and shuffle, and fixed the bugs you were kind enough to tell us about.
So nothing changes for you. Anyone who downloaded Plush before version 1.5.0 has Plush Pro, permanently, at no cost. You will not see a lock, an upgrade prompt or an "Upgrade" menu item. Update to 1.5.0 and everything you use today is still there. In the sidebar's Advanced section, the Plush Pro row simply says thank you for being an early supporter.
What changed in 1.5.0
Plush used to be a paid download. From 1.5.0 it is free to download, and the advanced features sit behind a single optional purchase.
| Free | Plush Pro ($2.99 once) | |
|---|---|---|
| Tiles at once | Up to 3 | Up to 8 |
| Layouts | Grid, plus Split from 1.6 | Grid and Hero, plus Split from 1.6 |
| Sound modes | Focus | Focus, Adaptive and Chaos |
| Time sync across tiles | No | Yes |
| Folder playback and shuffle | No, single files only | Yes |
| Shuffle This Site and auto-advance on web tiles | No | Yes |
| Saved sessions | Restore Last Session | Save and load named sessions |
| Price | Free, forever | One-time $2.99, no subscription |
Everything else is free and stays free: tiles from the web, local files and Apple Music, resizing tiles, Pin on Top, picture modes, playback speed, keyboard controls, Privacy Protection, accessibility features, master mute, the aurora visualizer, frame copy and GIF export.
1.5.0 also moves GIF export into the Playback menu (Playback > Export 3-Second GIF, ⇧⌘G). It works on local video tiles, and if an export fails, Plush now tells you instead of failing quietly.
Why we made Plush free
A price tag in front of a download asks people to pay before they know whether an app fits the way they watch. Plush is easier to show than to describe, and the moment it clicks is the first time a video, a website and a playlist sit side by side in one window. Three tiles is enough for that moment, so three tiles is what the free version gives you.
We chose a one-time purchase over a subscription on purpose. Plush is a media player, not a service with a monthly bill behind it, and $2.99 once felt like what it is worth to the people who want the full eight-tile setup.
We also decided what the free version would not do:
- No trial and no clock. The free version is not a countdown. It does not expire.
- No launch-screen sales pitch. Plush never opens with an upgrade screen. The Plush Pro card appears only when you reach for a Pro feature, such as a fourth tile or the Hero layout.
- Nothing hidden. Pro controls stay visible, slightly dimmed, with a small lock. Hover for a tooltip, click to see what Pro includes. A control that just looks disabled teaches nothing.
How to get Plush Pro
- From a locked control. Click anything with a lock, like the Hero layout or the Adaptive sound mode. The Plush Pro card opens with the price and the full list of what it unlocks.
- From the menu. Choose Plush > Upgrade to Plush Pro.
- From the sidebar. Open the sidebar's Advanced section and click Upgrade on the Plush Pro row.
The purchase goes through the Mac App Store, so you pay with your Apple Account and Apple handles the receipt. On another Mac, or after reinstalling, choose Plush > Restore Purchases.
If you already own Plush
Plush checks your original download with the App Store. If you first downloaded Plush before 1.5.0, it unlocks Plush Pro automatically, and it stays unlocked offline because Plush remembers the answer. You don't buy anything and you don't press anything.
If Plush can't reach the App Store the first time it checks, the Plush Pro row in the sidebar's Advanced section shows a Refresh button. Press it once you're back online.
What comes next
Going free means more people can try Plush, and more people trying it means more feedback on what to build next. If something feels off, or a site you watch doesn't behave in a tile, the Plush support page reaches us directly. If Plush earns it, a rating on the Mac App Store helps other Mac users find it more than anything else.
